Preventive Dentistry
Preventive dentistry is an investment in the health and beauty of your future smile. By making that investment regularly, you may be able to avoid many serious dental conditions in the future.
We create preventive dentistry plans based on your needs, your dental history, and our knowledge of what will help you achieve and maintain optimum oral health.
Comprehensive Dental Exams
We provide comprehensive oral exams for every patient. By performing a thorough exam of your teeth, gums, bite, and jaw health, we can identify any problems and determine the best treatment to keep you healthy.
We also provide an oral cancer screening for patients. Your dentist is often the first line of defense when it comes to the early diagnosis of oral cancer.
Personalized Dental Cleanings
Not all dental cleanings are the same. Some patients may need a standard dental cleaning that includes removing a small amount of tartar from your teeth and polishing away residual plaque, tartar, and stains. Other patients may have some catching up to do!
We recommend your dental cleaning based on your needs and oral health history. If you have periodontal disease, we can help heal your gums and restore your health.
Fluoride and Dental Sealants
If you or your children are prone to tooth decay because of genetics or deep grooves in your teeth, we can provide fluoride treatments and dental sealants to protect your teeth.
Fluoride – We use fluoride to re-mineralize your teeth and strengthen your enamel. It is also useful for patients who suffer from gum recession and have exposed roots.
Sealants – Dental sealants are a barrier that covers the deepest grooves of your teeth and protects them from bacteria and decay. Sealants are non-invasive and less expensive than fillings.
Diagnostic X-Rays
We can diagnose many conditions using a visual exam, but not everything is visible with the eye. Decay can sneak under the protective layer of your enamel and between your teeth, where it is difficult to detect. X-rays help us make an accurate diagnosis by revealing decay, bone loss, and even some cysts and tumors.
Our Bloomington, IN dental office even features 3-D imaging to diagnose jaw conditions and assist with dental implant placement.
Nightguards and Athletic Mouthguards
Clenching, grinding, and playing sports can all put your teeth at risk. Two often-overlooked preventive dentistry treatments include nightguards and mouthguards.
Nightguards – Nightguards provide a barrier between your upper and lower teeth so you don’t damage your teeth while you grind in your sleep. This can prevent fractures, wear, and even jaw problems.
Athletic mouthguards – Athletic mouthguards protect your teeth from stray fly balls, hockey sticks, handlebars, and elbows. Sports are fun and a great way to stay healthy, but protecting your smile can keep your fun from causing damage to your smile.
